2019 > 94 puntos
The varietal Albarello (Brancellao) red O Tesouro changed its name in 2019 to Alma do Vello Tesouro, but it's the same wine from a young vineyard planted in the middle of the chestnuts at 580 meters altitude in the village of Rubiá. The 2019 Alma do Vello Tesouro fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in used 500-liter French oak barrels for 13 months to preserve the perfume and delicacy of the local variety. This is very pretty and elegant, delicate, with an ethereal palate and very fine tannins. It's floral, with contained ripeness and 12.5% alcohol, with pungent flavors and great length. 1,203 bottles were produced in 2019. It was bottled in May 2021.
2017 / 94 puntos
The red 2017 O Tesouro is pure Albarello (or Brancellao), one of the most delicate and aromatic red grapes from Galicia, from a 15-year-old trellised vineyard planted at 550 meters in altitude, quite high for the zone, in the middle of a chestnut tree forest. It fermented with 90% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in 500-liter French oak barrels for one year before bottling. It seems like the early harvest helped to preserve the acidity, and the alcohol was a moderate 12.5%. This has a bright ruby color, a very perfumed nose, elegant and nuanced, and there is good freshness for the altitude and the place, sheltered by trees. This is definitely a step up from the already impressive 2016. It's fresh, with bright red fruit and very spicy. The palate is vibrant, medium-bodied, with depth and length, fresh, focused and nicely textured. 1,120 bottles were filled in January 2019.
