2019 > 93+ puntos
The 2019 As 2 Ladeiras was produced with the grapes from the slopes of the rivers Bibei and Xares, and the label mentions the villages of Chandoiro and Larouco. The vines are at 550 meters above sea level on gneiss and slate soils. The wine matured in French oak barrels and 1,000- and 2,000-liter foudres with fine lees for 10 months and a further eight months in stainless steel. It has a medium body and moderate alcohol (13%), with good freshness and acidity. Despite being the sharpest of the whites, it also has some faint honeyed, decayed white flowers and nutty aromas and hints of dry straw and herbs. It has a very tasty palate with pungent flavors and a vibrant sensation; it's narrow and vertical; and it's elegant and complex. 4,400 bottles were filled in May 2021.
2017 / 92+ puntos
The 2017 As 2 Ladeiras is the Godello from rockier and stonier slopes on the banks of the Bibei and Xares Rivers. The different plots fermented separately with indigenous yeasts in barriques and French oak foudres, where the wines matured for nine months followed by a further four months in stainless. This has 1% less alcohol than Ededia. The vines here suffered quite a lot from the frost, and they did two different harvests, first the original grapes that survived, maybe some 25%, and then the second generation that was close to 75% (so that was harvested quite late), and that's why the alcohol is quite low. The wine has a golden color, but it had less skin contact than 2015 and 2016, so it is a little lighter. It has more grapes from gneiss soils, which deliver more clarity than red slate soils, a little like a more textured version of granite. It has aromas of hay and straw, a little more herbal, with a touch of pollen and a touch of honey and beeswax. It's direct and tense, quite sharp, narrow and fresh, with no excess or signs of heat. It's unusual, but I'd say it's a triumph over the adverse conditions of the year. 3,100 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2019.
