I tasted two vintages of the single-vineyard Verdejo from a plot planted by the family in 1981 on stony soils typical from La Seca on limestone mother rock. The 2019 Majuelo del Chiviritero is from a warm and dry year and shows the concentration and power of the low yields, but the cooler August helped it keep very good freshness and acidity—it has 13.7% alcohol, a pH of 3.2 and 5.89 grams of acidity. The juice from the direct pressing fermented in used French oak barrels, and the wine matured in 225-, 300-, 400-, 500- and 600-liter barrels for 11 months and a further 11 months in stainless steel before being bottled. It has a very expressive nose, with no noticeable oak, with notes of pollen, dried flowers and quince. It's concentrated and powerful, balanced and fresh (August was a little cooler, and they got lower pH—more freshness than ever). It feels like a very good and complete vintage for this wine. 7,609 bottles and 80 magnums were filled unfiltered and unfined in August 2021.
