The 2019 Lomba dos Ares is a red village wine from different vineyards in Manzaneda, all planted with a field blend of Mencía, Grao Negro, Negreda, Garnacha Tintorera, Bastardo and Aramón. The full clusters fermented at low temperature (below 20 degrees Celsius) with indigenous yeasts and a long maceration of around 60 days. It matured in used 300- and 500-liter French oak barrels, a 3,200-liter oak vat and a 2,000-liter concrete vat for 11 months. It has 12.4% alcohol, a pH of 3.4 and 5.4 grams of acidity. This is a wine that has grown in the last few years; it has increased complexity and depth and is moderately ripe, with juicy flavors and a strong mineral sensation that is a texture, a mouthfeel rather than a flavor or aroma. It has the nuance, power and concentration of the old vines and the mixed varieties, longer and with more layers, persistent and vibrant. 7,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2021. -

Like the white Conasbrancas, the red 2018 Lomba dos Ares is a village wine produced with grapes from different parishes of Manzaneda (Soutipedre, Seoane and Langullo), where the old vineyards are all planted with a mix of grapes—Mencía, Grao Negro, Negreda, Garnacha Tintorera, Bastardo, Aramón... So, this is a village field blend that fermented at low temperature (below 20 degrees Celsius) with full clusters and indigenous yeasts, with a total maceration time of around 60 days. It matured in used 300- and 500-liter French oak barrels and a 3,200-liter oak vat for 10 months. I see a lot of finesse here, with notes of blood oranges, flowers and red berries, and it's very focused, aromatic and expressive, less reductive than previous years. There's more precision here; the palate is focused, clean and very tasty, with very fine tannins and a citrus, effervescent finish. 7,000 bottles were filled in December 2019. - May 2020 Week 2, The Wine Advocate -
