I was a bit surprised to see the "second" white 2018 Anteportalatina in a vintage like 2018, when I thought the conditions would have been ideal to produce Añadas Frías. In fact, this was a last-minute decision, as it was destined to be Añadas Frías but he must have seen something that didn't quite fit with the spirit of Añadas Frías... This is a single-vineyard Viura from 1.5 hectares in Laguardia at 600 meters in altitude, where yields were 11 hectoliters per hectare. Fermentation started in stainless steel, but the fermenting must was transferred to 500-liter French oak barrels and concrete eggs after three days for the completion of it, and then the wine matured for 14 months in those vessels. It still feels very young and a little marked by the élevage in a Burgundian way—this is very Roulot—with great purity and precision, harmony and elegance. This is fresh, with smoky and spicy with notes of white pepper, floral and medium-bodied but with volume (a little more than what it would be as the Añadas Frías), with a velvety texture, chalky tannins, great purity and precision and very good natural freshness. It's vibrant, transparent and focused. It doesn't have the verticality and pungent acidity that Añadas Frías always has. 2,500 bottles were filled in December 2019.
