2019 > 92+ puntos
The oak-aged white blend 2019 La Orquesta was produced with Garnacha Blanca, Albillo Real and Verdejo, an unusual mix that is not allowed by the appellation of origin because it also mixes grapes from different places, Cebreros and La Moraña in the case of the Verdejo. Half of it fermented in oak vats, where it matured with lees, and the other half fermented in stainless steel and matured in tinaja for one year. The wine spends 16 months in the winery and is released in its second year. It has an expressive and nuanced nose, very different and original, very floral, perfumed and pungent (think jasmine) with a citrus twist and good freshness even in such a dry and warm year. It has a round palate with a soft mouthfeel but pungent flavors. 6,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2021.
2018 > 93 puntos
Naturally, the white 2018 La Orquesta is also changing, and from a varietal Verdejo, it has moved to a blend of Albillo Real, Verdejo and Garnacha Blanca in a proportion of approximately 40/40/20. The Albillo and Garnacha are from Cebreros, and the Verdejo is from La Moraña, close to Rueda, all from old, organically farmed vineyards. It fermented in concrete and matured in a combination of oak foudres and clay "tinaja" for one year. It's 13.5% alcohol and has good acidity. The nose is completely different, perfumed and floral to the point that it makes me think of aromatic varieties, with a pungent note of tangerine peel. The palate does have the bitter taste from the Verdejo, and it's still very young and should continue evolving nicely in bottle. It's full of personality, original and very pleasant. This is sold without appellation of origin. 6,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2019.
