Color cereza brillante.
Fruta madura, especias dulces, roble cremoso, expresivo.
Sabroso, frutoso, tostado, taninos maduros.
Añada 2018 < 94 puntos < The pure Syrah 2018 Valtosca seems to follow the path of the 2017, when the wine was aged exclusively in 5,000-liter foudres instead of barriques and the wine was purer and more defined. It fermented in the underground stone pools with 25% to 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts, and it has less alcohol than the 2017. It has to be the most Northern Rhône-ish of the vintages of Valtosca. It has that herbal touch of raspberry leaf and a slightly smoky character that took some time to emerge in the glass. It developed the bacon and violet notes and is quite relaxed and with light, rather than earthy and riper. I think Syrah behaves better in cooler year and seems to suffer a bit more in the warmer, more Mediterranean years. 26,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2019.
