They believe that their grapes from Moradillo de Roa have more complexity and finesse and that the wines have more aging potential, so the 2018 Arano—the first vintage produced with these grapes—had a longer élevage than the eponymous Bela. After a very challenging 2017, 2018 was a great harvest with potential to deliver fresh wines with good aging potential. The vines, around 25 years old, are at 1,000 meters in altitude on stony soils with gravels (à la Châteauneuf) and silt of sandy texture. After a four-day cold soak, the grapes fermented in stainless steel with selected yeasts, and the wine matured in French oak barrels for no less than 15 months. This is going to need a little more time given the longer élevage; it's not that the wine is oaky, because the oaking is subtle, but it feels a little more compressed and shy. It's spicy and smoky, perfumed too. The palate is full-bodied, and there are plenty of fine-grained tannins that would benefit from some more time in bottle. The label is also a facsimile of one of CVNE's labels from 1910 (red Monopole!); both wines have similar labels that mention the name of the village where the grapes are grown. 13,000 bottles were filled in March 2021.
