I love the bright aromatics and the purity and nuance of the pale red 2019 Camino de los Arrieros, a field blend of multiple grape varieties (Trincadeira, Mencía, Bastardo, Juan Garcia, Rufete, Tinto Jeromo, Gajo Arroba, Mandon and 7% Doña Blanca) from 36 small plots that make up 3.9 hectares of vines in the village of Villadepera. There are notes of red cherries and orange peel denoting freshness, and it has only 11.5% alcohol and a low pH (3.42). 6,000 bottles were filled in June 2021.

I had already tasted the village red from Villadepera 2018 Camino de los Arrieros before. It comes from different vineyards in the village and is subtle and light, with incredible perfume, floral and elegant. It's moving very slowly since I tasted it recently bottled in late 2019—it is ethereal and full of energy, the best vintage produced so far. This is from a number of plots (36!), and not all are yet certified organic. It should be longer lived than I initially anticipated. 12,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2019.
