2019 > 94 puntos
The single-vineyard Godello 2019 Ededia was sourced from a 0.35-hectare 37-year-old plot planted with the old Godello clone in the zone of Treval in the village of Rubiá, where the soils are rich in clay and limestone. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels, where it was kept in contact with the lees for 14 months. It's pale and feels undeveloped, very young, a little austere and with a flinty touch. It's round and voluptuous at 13.4% alcohol, but it keeps very good balance and freshness and is nuanced and complex, with great elegance. This is superb, possibly their finest white to date. 1,250 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2021.
2017 / 93 puntos
The 2017 Ededia was produced with Godello grapes from a 0.35-hectare plot planted with the old clone, Godello Vello, some 35 years ago on clay soils of limestone origin that deliver especially silky and voluptuous wines. It fermented with natural yeasts in French oak barrels, where it was kept in contact with the fine lees for one year. This vineyard, on a south-facing slope, didn't suffer from the killer frost of the year, and the grapes ripened quickly and quite high. The wine has a golden color and an expressive nose with lots of yellow flowers, quite showy, a little wild in the style of the old-time Godello, with even some notes of cereals. It's surprising how the wine has retained very good freshness, because it also has volume. There's also some creaminess (without excess), and it's all in balance. Only 850 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2019.
